Fátima is a Portuguese city located in Serra de Aire, a parish, subdivision of the municipality of Ourém, in the province of Beira Litoral, region of the centre (region of the borders) and subregion of the middle Tagus, with 71.29 km² of area and 11 596 inhabitants (2011). [1] Its population density is 162.7 hab/km². His world fame is due to the account of the apparitions of the Virgin Mariareportadas by three shepherds from 13 May until 13 October 1917.

At the ecclesiastical level, the city of Fatima is simultaneously the seat of the diocese with the city of Leiria. The name of the then-renamed Diocese of Leiria-Fátima was attributed by Pope John Paul II to 13 May 1984. The only parish in the city has as patron Our Lady of pleasures. The parish of Serra, as it was originally known, was dismembered from the collegiate of Ourém in the year 1568.

Due to the sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima, situated in the place of the Cova da Will, the city became one of the most important international destinations of religious tourism, receiving about 6 million of people a year. 2
